I’m Tom Emery, founder of HEX, a people performance consultancy that helps organisations and leaders create sustainable behavioural change and high-impact performance. Why I left the boardroom to build HEX

After years as a Chief People Officer in PLC and private equity-backed organisations, I saw the same pattern. Development work felt energising in the moment but didn’t lead to long-term change. Leaders were supported, but the impact was limited and short-lived. Organisations were not being intentional enough about ensuring their people and teams reached their full potential. The result of this mindless approach was that their commercial results were below where they should have been.

I founded HEX to change that.

HEX was built on a simple philosophy: developing people should be impactful, a fantastic experience, and genuinely sustainable.

My interest in how people think, behave, and lead under pressure led me into coaching and facilitation. HEX gives me the opportunity to combine strategy, psychology, and lived c-suite leadership experience to create development that truly sticks.

From the beginning, we have prioritised listening, diagnosis, and bespoke design. We do not use templates or one-size-fits-all programmes. Everything is built for the client’s real context and with impact at its core. This approach has helped HEX grow through trust, recommendation, and long-term partnerships.

Today we work across financial services, logistics, manufacturing, technology, and professional services, amongst others. Many of our strongest relationships began with a single coaching engagement that grew into multi-year leadership development work.
